What is a satsang?

Satsang is an ancient tradition of meditating together for succour and courage – “It’s a Sanskrit word meaning sitting together in truth,” says Doc.

“The idea for an online satsang came to me a few months ago, whence all the good ones hail – that mad muse, along with clear instruction to focus on bringing people together at this time, to sit together in truth, in authentic communion with each other and that ineffable presence informing us all – that it’s important for this time and phase in light of the unprecedented challenge we face in terms of our very survival on the planet.”

Live & improvised

Barefoot Satsangs are usually held at 1700 UK time (GMT) every Sunday so people in as many time zones as possible can join in and benefit.  Each satsang lasts about an hour and is totally unique, live and interactive. Doc will be: “improvising according to the energy in the room – to keep it fresh and real every time, rather than formulaic and dull.”

The first 20 minutes comprises Doc’s reflections on the world this week, before a 20-30 minute guided meditation and a 20 minute question and answer session, when he answers questions from participants.

He says: “The more of us who participate, who sit together in truth meditating (the literal meaning of satsang), the more powerful the effect will be for everyone, not just the people there but everyone they know, everyone they know and so on, six times till the magic touches everyone on the planet.”

 Benefits

This is the fifth Barefoot Satsang series and Doc is thrilled at how people are benefiting from the experience.  Here’s a few of their comments:

“Beautiful, moving, loving, what a wonderful experience,” said Hils

“I absolutely LOVED it!” Lisa said, “It was lovely to feel connected even though I was sitting in my little chair on my ownsome.”

And Nadia explains: “I thought it was an important event, meditating together all over the world. I was also pleased that the answer to someone else’s existential question exactly answered my own. Thank you all.”

Whilst Stefanie enthused: “Thanks for this awesome webinar satsang! I loved it and will recommend it to everyone I know!” and Julia said: “Wonderful and so powerrrful! Just on a physical level I have lost aches etc but on  energetic levels can feel transformations taking place. A deep feeling of balance and contentment is manifesting.”

Liz sums up many participants’ thoughts: “Heartfelt Thanks for this evening’s Barefoot Satsang, I have no words at present except to say…… your energy is Beautiful and gently powerful.”

Affordable

Each Barefoot Satsang is extremely affordable at just $10 (that’s about £6 or 7 Euros) – or you can book the full series of six for $50, saving $10.  For more information and to register and submit questions for Doc, visit www.barefootsatsang.com

New F**k It website & retreats

Fuck It RetreatsF**k It author John Parkin and his wife Gaia Pollini have said F**k it to running their award winning Hill that Breathes retreat centre in Italy and embarked on a new adventure.

The whole F**k It thing began when Gaia and John began teaching F**k It Weeks at The Hill seven years ago, but they’ve now decided they prefer to be spreading the F**k It message around the world than running a retreat centre in just one place.

Whilst The Hill will remain home to the couple and their kids, it’s now closed to visitors and F**K IT RETREATS has been born instead. This will see John and Gaia teaching F**k It weeks, and other great stuff, in amazing venues … on a volcano (yes, you read that right), in a luxury country estate and spa, and more.

The retreats will mainly be held in Italy and the UK for 2012, but there are plans for other venues later.

If you feel like learning or revisiting how to say F**k It (it’s the ultimate spiritual way) with John and Gaia, check out their new website, featuring a cute video of their young boys talking about F**k It (or ‘Fooook It’ as they call it in their Italian accents):

School for Warriors Live

Barefoot Doctor's School for WarriorsBeing able to access a state of inner peace and power no matter the circumstances of your life is a priceless gift and one which was for centuries the preserve of emperors and their warriors.

It was the Taoists of ancient China who developed psycho-physical techniques – known as the inner martial arts – to help them achieve strength and stability. Barefoot Doctor Stephen Russell has spent his life studying, practicing and interpreting these esoteric teachings to create a system which is simple, quick and effective for busy people in the modern world.

He will be teaching his Eight Principles of Personal Power, which form the foundation of his School for Warriors courses, together with new exercises, energy meditations and his own personal tai chi and chi gung inspired daily routines, at a two day event in London.

School for Warriors Live will be held at The Window in Islington on Saturday 29-Sunday 30 October. It will also feature meditation and Nia sessions with Stephen’s friend and fellow warrior from Houston, Texas, Alan Davidson.

“It’s the first time I’ve presented the School for Warriors training in this particular way and the only time I’ll be offering it as a live event for at least 12 months,” says Stephen.

“I’m particularly excited about the mix of people attending from beginners to advanced students from right across Europe. It’s a great opportunity to meet with others of like mind, to learn and practice a range of techniques and of course, to ask me any pressing questions in person.”

How to develop inner strength & personal power

September 2, 2011 by
Filed under latest news & views, learn, mindset, watch, we like, wellbeing

As we approach 2012, I don’t think I can ever remember a time when there was so much uncertainty in the world.  Helping people to stay strong in the face of such uncertainty and to remain steady, calm, relaxed and centered no matter what life throws at you is the aim of Barefoot Doctor Stephen Russell’s eight week online video based training course ‘School for Warriors 1 – The Eight Principles of Personal Power’.

Although this is a martial arts based training, it’s not about learning how to fight physically like a warrior – but about developing inner strength through learning the inner martial arts. In doing so, you can ensure that, however tough life gets, you have the focus, energy and spirit to not just survive, but thrive.

Stephen calls this ‘the warrior’s way’ and it’s a way that he has personally walked for 40 years. School for Warriors-1 is the result of those 40 years of practice and 30 years training others in these techniques. Although these transformational skills have been handed down from Taoist sages in ancient China, Stephen has brought the trainings bang up to date for busy people in the modern world.

And whilst martial arts can take decades to master, School for Warriors offers daily exercises that take an average of six minutes to practice, and so can be fitted in and around your life.

These skills were once so secret they were the preserve of the emperors and their warriors, but Stephen has demystified them and explains them in a simple way to help you transform your life by transforming your relationship with yourself.

Don’t take my word for it however – these are comments from graduates:

Patsy – “ I have been more confident in my own abilities and, certainly in my work environment, to stand up for myself and believe that the service I offer is valuable. I do not panic so often and don’t get paranoid about other people not valuing me. I am much calmer. “ Patsy

Chris – “Thanks Doc, you (and SFW) has become such a massive, positive part of my life, I honestly feel empowered!”

Sara-Jane – “SFW has been the key to enabling me to transform my reality in an amazing way …..dealing with the ups and downs that are an inevitable part of it and keeping my balance much more succesfully – just brilliant!”

Julian – “I am going to do SFW1 again and build from there. I feel I can keep going and get more of what I want and be happier in my own skin.”

John – “I would wholeheartedly say to everyone to try the course. Your life will be changed for the better and you will experience levels of peace and happiness you never thought possible.

If you feel ready to walk the warrior’s way – full details of the course are available here

Trusting the process

July 30, 2011 by

My friend is off to ‘Party in the Park’ today with her teenage kids.  Why is that of note?  Well, she’s one of those people who doesn’t know what an inspiration she is.  She’s an inspiration because her whole attitude to life is to get out there and enjoy it, every minute.

Born with a heart condition, its 40 years since surgery saved her life. Naturally her parents were more concerned about her health than pushing her to do well at school, so her grades weren’t that great. Has that held her back? Absolutely not. She has a wonderful career, having caught up with her peers, taking all the professional qualifications she has required along the way.

Challenges & risks

Advised not to have children as it could be dangerous, she took a calculated risk and had each pregnancy monitored carefully, the birth pre-planned and supervised closely, resulting in two lovely children who are rapidly growing up to be a credit to their parents.

When the eldest was diagnosed with Asperger’s it was a blow. Did that stop my friend from ensuring he had every opportunity to enjoy life to the full, just as she does? Of course not.  Has the attention he has required, meant her daughter has in any way lost out.  No. Mum and daughter do special things together, as do Mum and son, and the whole family is a loving, lovely unit.

Seize the day

Yes, they have their ups and downs, shouting matches and sulks, like any family. But Mum’s ‘seize the day’ philosophy means arguments are settled quickly so everyone can get back to enjoying life.

I’ve been thinking about my friend this week as she’s not only an inspiration but a superb example of perseverance against the odds. And that’s something that any of us facing or making change require in spadefuls.

I made my big change almost exactly a year ago, when I left the security and salary of the day job to work for myself. It’s been an interesting experience!  Not knowing from month to month whether I’ll cover the bills and make a go of it has been quite a test.

Perseverance

Perseverance has most certainly been required and trust.  Trust in myself, trust in what I am creating and, above all, trust in what Neale Donald Walsch would call ‘the process’ – the process of life evolving, Tao, God, Divine Spirit, higher self – whatever your name for the ineffable is.

Trust in the process has been central because even the best laid plans morph and change. Sticking rigidly to what I first set out to do would, hindsight has shown, have been counterproductive. Flowing with the opportunities offered and the insights gained as my knowledge and confidence have improved, has opened new doors.

So here I am one year on, with exciting news to share over the coming weeks – the first of which is my interview one of the people whose work I have found totally life changing – Neale Donald Walsch.

Neale’s interview is the first in a new webinar series called The Gift.  There will be two or three free The Gift webinars a month, each with an individual who is insightful and inspiring, sharing the people, places, books and events which have shaped them, and the gifts they now share with the world.

You can register for the interview with Neale at:

Are we near the tipping point?

July 9, 2011 by

There’s much spoken by luminaries various about ‘the tipping point’ – that point at which the number of individuals who are awake and aware reaches a significantly high enough proportion to make a real difference in how we collectively choose to live on this planet. It’s interesting to reflect on how things are progressing.

When people as diverse as Jack Kerouac, Jiddu Krishnamurti, John Lennon, Alan Watts, Jim Morrison, Van Morrison and even Barefoot Doctor Stephen Russell were exploring what it was to be a spiritual being in a human body, they didn’t pop down to Waterstone’s Mind Body and Spirit section, nip online to download an e-book from Amazon or respond to an email from Nightingale Conant with a CD offer.

Searching

There was no ‘Mind Body and Spirit’ genre. Spiritual exploration and personal growth involved searching out primarily religious and philosophical texts in colleges, libraries, or independent book stores.  To spend time with and learn from wise people usually meant travelling to a far flung destination, be it east or west, to soak up ancient learning and traditions in situ. Remember the Beatles much touted trip to India?

How different it is now….

Every day my inbox fills with the latest ‘certified expert’ to launch a Law of Attraction or Spiritual Entrepreneurs telesummit. Online sources such Self Growth point us to a simply dizzying array of authors, teachers and speakers and if I want to find a local event in the UK to hang out with like minds, I just Google Merlin’s Diary (both great resources of course).

Sources

The sheer number of sources from which an enquiring mind can glean information is quite frankly mind boggling. And the reach of shows like Oprah mean people who might otherwise have never picked up a book by Eckhart Tolle, for example, have been exposed to what he teaches.

Google, facebook and twitter, ipads, iphones, blackberries and apps link us all in ways we could never have believed possible twenty years ago. Increasingly fast, high quality web streaming technology means you will soon never need to leave your home to watch live or download talks from your favourite authors.

It’s never been so easy to dip into personal development and spirituality – indeed it’s been quite fashionable to do so for a number of years.  And yet, are we anywhere near the tipping point?

Sufficient?

Are there sufficient numbers of awake and aware people putting their beliefs about oneness into action, working together for a better society and to mitigate the damage we continue to cause our planet?

Or have we merely created a marketplace where personal development and spirituality are peddled simply as shopping opportunities – its devotees consumers of products rather than explorers of consciousness?

I’m honestly not sure, but it will certainly be interesting to see how things unfold as we move through the next decade.

Choices

Meanwhile how do you and I, living in this environment and faced with that dizzying array of authors, speakers and teachers sort the wheat from the chaff so we spend our hard earned cash sensibly and feel we’ve been assisted to take a genuine step forward on our journey?

How can we tell who is utterly passionate, with a genuine vocation, committed to living their truth and sharing their message, from those who have merely jumped on the latest bandwagon, are riding the wave of the latest trend, in it primarily for fame and a fast buck?

The answer for the true seeker, not the spiritual shopaholic, is where it’s always been – inside. You and I can have no finer guide than our own intuition – our gut feeling. Why? Because it doesn’t matter how many books you read, events you attend or courses you study, your own experience is unique, your journey begins and ends with you – no one else can walk your path.

So trust your instincts to lead you to the perfect book, course or event. Listen to the authors, teachers and speakers who resonate with you but, more importantly, listen to you. You will always be your best guide, your best teacher.
